The Joint Commission and CareChex® recognize Englewood Hospital’s Cardiac Program for delivering outstanding patient results and demonstrating continuous commitment to medical excellence
Englewood, NJ – The cardiovascular health services at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center (www.englewoodhospital.com) continue their tradition of excellence with two new awards for quality patient care. Recent accolades include a Gold Seal of Approval for stroke care from The Joint Commission and the Medical Excellence Award for cardiac care from CareChex®.
Stroke Care
The Joint Commission once again recognized Englewood Hospital as a Primary Stroke Center, awarding the Medical Center full-certification after having undergone a rigorous evaluation of its services and procedures. The recertification recognizes that the Medical Center’s stroke program significantly improves outcomes for stroke patients. The Medical Center is among a prestigious group of fewer than 150 hospitals nationwide designated as a Primary Stroke Center.
The Stroke Center at Englewood Hospital provides comprehensive emergency response and treatment for stroke victims. Patients will note that our stroke team is distinctive in that the response and care of stroke patients has been planned by and is implemented by a coordinated team of experts. These care providers include members of the Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU), physicians, nurses and technicians. In addition, members of the local ambulance corps have been trained to recognize the symptoms of stroke and are prepared to alert the Emergency Department of the imminent arrival by ambulance of a possible stroke patient
Cardiac Medical Excellence
CareChex® has recognized Englewood Hospital for achieving medical excellence in cardiac care, which includes mortality, complications of care, patient safety, and The Joint Commission core processes as factors for this achievement. Hospitals must attain a quality rating that places them in the top 10% of all hospitals in their respective state to earn this distinction.
“Our cardiac program is consistently ranked among the state and country’s finest because our experts are dedicated to providing the best evidence-based medicine,” said Jeffrey Matican, MD, Chief of Cardiology at the Medical Center. “In turn, our patients receive quality medical care that ensures a better patient experience.”
About Englewood Hospital’s Cardiology/Cardiac Surgery Programs
Englewood Hospital was recognized among the top three hospitals in the U.S. for the lowest heart attack mortality rate, according to statistics from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released in 2009. The data showed that heart attack patients with Medicare coverage who received treatment at Englewood Hospital had a better chance of surviving over a 30-day period than those treated at any other hospital in New Jersey. Additionally, the Medical Center has been the only hospital in New Jersey, year after year, with a 0.00% mortality rate for coronary bypass surgery as defined by the Department of Health and Senior Services Cardiac Surgery in NJ report. These results have been accomplished with one of the lowest average lengths of stay in the state, another measure of the quality outcomes achieved by the hospital.
The Medical Center also performs the highest proportion of complex procedures, such as multi-valve repair, aneurysm/aortic dissection repair and endovascular thoracic aneurysm graft (TAG) repair. A variety of state-of-the art technologies and surgical techniques are available to patients including minimally invasive procedures and off-pump, beating-heart surgery, which eliminates the need for a heart bypass machine.
